ST. GEORGE — A group plans to transform the Staten Island Ferry into a "silent" nightclub this weekend.
Quiet Events — which organizes "silent" dance parties at clubs and on subways around the city — plans to have 100 clubbers dancing the night away on the ferry and at a bar in the borough on Saturday night.
Dancers will rent wireless headphones from the group that let's them tune into two different DJ mixes — one for '80s and '90s music and another for top 40 tunes — and are also linked up to a tour guides mic, said Eze Ramos, director of events for the group.
"They hop on the ferry, they actually dance on the ferry, then you have the tour guide that's kind of pointing out stuff about the history of New York," Ramos said. "There are no speakers, so there's no other noise that's going to be bothering other people."
Each headphone has a switch to change the station and LED lights so other party goers can tell which one you're dancing to, organizers said.
The group — which hosts events in other spots like Jersey City and San Francisco — had its first ferry dance party last year and plans to hold one once a year, Ramos said.
Organizers also instruct party goers to do "flash mob" style actives throughout the night, like dancing with people or telling couples to kiss, Ramos said.
And while some people might be bothered by their ride home being turned into a nightclub, Ramos said most people enjoy the diversion from their commute.
"I never heard anybody really complain with the mobile parties," Ramos said. "It's great because the customers always get everybody involved, people start dancing, other people that aren't even part of the group."
The $25 party starts at 7 p.m. in Fraunces Tavern, in the Financial District, then leaves at 8 p.m. to catch a ferry. Party goers will hit Jimmie Steiny's pub on Staten Island, then go back to the Croton Reservoir Tavern, in Midtown, around 11 p.m.
