MANHATTAN — A man beat and strangled his cousin in her East Harlem apartment then fled to Massachusetts and killed himself, police said.

Police first found 43-year-old Reisa Paez lying lifeless in her bed on Jan. 17th at 5:00 p.m. There were no signs of a struggle or any markers of trauma at the scene, according to the NYPD.

After four months, the Medical Examiner's office ruled Wednesday that Paez' death was a homicide, police said.

Police suspected that Paez' cousin was to blame for her death.

Her cousin, who police refused to name, was visiting Paez at her home at 1830 1st Avenue in the Isaac Houses at the time of the attack. After killing Paez, the relative fled the state to his home in Framingham, Massachusetts where he commited suicide, NYPD said.

Framingham police could not be reached for immediate comment.
