WILLIAMSBURG — A glass-encased office building is set to rise on a full-square block on Kent Avenue and North 12th Street, a developer announced.
Heritage Equity Partners is planning to build a nine-story, 400,000-square-foot "transformative technology and maker hub" called The Williamsburg Generator spanning over the entire block between North 12th Street and North 13th Street, and Wythe Street and Kent Avenue, the developer said in a statement.
The building, which is large enough to fit 2,000 to 3,000 employees, will be geared toward incubators, startups and includes larger spaces for more mature companies, according to the developer.
“Williamsburg is overflowing with like-minded entrepreneurs seeking a new, innovative campus that fosters creativity, collaboration and innovation,” Heritage Equity executive officer Toby Moskovits said in a statement.
The developer still needs to get approval from the city to change the zoning on the property to use it for office purpose, and the plan itself needs approval before work can begin, a spokeswoman for the developer said.
Developer Toby Moskovits plans to start the rezoning process and construction of the brick and glass building within the next few weeks, according to a spokeswoman.
Construction would take between 18 and 24 months, according to the spokeswoman.
In addition to office space, the ground floor would include retail space for "artisanal eateries," according to a statement.
The property is across the street from Bushwick Inlet Park and is a block over from the new Williamsburg Hotel.
