QUEENS — Speed may have been a factor in a fiery crash that killed two men early Sunday morning, police sources said.

The accident, authorities said, took place around 4:30 a.m. after the car, with two people inside, crashed into scaffolding near Thomas Edison High School at 165-65 84th Ave. in Jamaica Hills and burst into flames.

After the fire was put out, two people were found in the car, unconscious and with severe burns, officials said.

They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NYPD.

Police said that the driver lost control of the 2001 Nissan Maxima, as the car was traveling east on the Grand Central Parkway service road. The vehicle struck construction scaffolding in front of the school and was engulfed in flames.

Police sources said that speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

As of Monday morning officials have not released the names of the victims.
