MIDTOWN SOUTH — The mother of a 1-year-old boy was detained after her son died on Monday, police said.

The 20-month-old boy started to foam from his mouth when the mother, 35, took him into the bathroom of 5 Boro Burger, 976 Avenue of Americas, around 2:46 p.m., a law enforcement source said.

The mother refused to open the door to restaurant workers, who eventually used a key to open it, police said.

EMS responded to the call for a boy in cardiac arrest and transported him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The woman was detained by police and being questioned at the hospital, a source said.
