WEST VILLAGE — Dutch clothing store Scotch & Soda will replace Cafe Angelique, which closed last year after a decade in the neighborhood.

The storefront at 49 Grove St. had long been home to Cafe Angelique, but after it closed in October, reportedly because of a significant rent hike, a new sign has appeared in the window announcing the arrival of Scotch & Soda this spring.

The clothing company offers “Amsterdam couture” for men, women, and children, according to the company's website, and has an outpost in Flatiron at 866 Broadway and in Nolita at 273 Lafayette St.

Scoth & Soda did not immediately respond to request for comment.

In other openings in the neighborhood, French bakery Maison Kayser is opening its seventh location in the city at 326 Bleecker St. in early June, according to a spokeswoman for the company.

The 66-seat shop will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will include a sit-down section, offering breakfast lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, according to the site.

Loaves of bread and pastries will be baked on site within view of patrons in the store and the dining area, the spokeswoman said, and the space will include a coffee bar.
