CHELSEA — If you can't make it into Cannes, why not try a film fest closer to home?

The Chelsea Film Festival, now in its third year, is soliciting submissions for its silver screenings, to be held October 15 through 18.

"We always encourage local film," said founder Ingrid Jean-Baptiste, an actress from France who started the festival after she moved to New York to study at the Actor's Studio.

"We would love to have more and more films from here, from Chelsea," she said.

The last deadline to submit is July 31, and movies will be judged by a selection commttee of five people involved in the film or theater industry, Baptiste said. Filmmakers working on their first or second film are especially encouraged.

"The goal is to show emerging talents," Jean-Baptiste said, "who are not shown because they're not stars."

Submitting by official submission deadline, June 26, costs $70 for features and documentaries and $55 for shorts. In July, costs raise to $90 for features and $75 for shorts.
