INWOOD — An ex-con who served time for burglary was arrested for ransacking an Ellwood Street apartment last month on the same day three other homes were burglarized, authorities said.

Elvis Semprit, 50, from the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx, was arrested on Tuesday for the Feb. 26 burglary, in which he entered the apartment through an unlocked door sometime after the tenant left for work about 10 a.m., police said. The resident returned about 7:15 p.m., to find her place had been looted, police said. It was not immediately clear what property was taken.

Investigators connected Semprit to the crime through video that they found near the scene, police said. He was charged with second-degree burglary, city Department of Correction records show.

The burglary Semprit was busted for appeared similar to three others that occurred in the area on the same day, though he has has not been charged in those incidents, a police source said.

Semprit previously served prison time for a first-degree robbery and two separate burglaries, state Department of Corrections records show. He was released in August 2011 after serving seven years for burglary.

Semprit is currently being held on $10,000 bail. His next court appearance is set for March 23, court records show.

Attempts to reach a lawyer for Semprit were not successful.
