MIDTOWN — Dude, where's my bong?
Mayor Bill de Blasio jokes about marijuana and traveling to Cuba to visit Fidel Castro in a video plugging his upcoming performance at the upcoming Inner Circle charity fundraiser.
The annual event, titled "Going to Pot" this year, pokes fun at the mayor and the press corps who cover him.
In the video, the mayor says he's not going to do the Inner Circle show this year because "the press corps is going to eat me alive," and he's too tall to dance in the skits.
That's when de Blasio is promptly introduced to his "impersonator," a shorter and bearded man who looks nothing like the mayor.
"My God. It's like looking in a mirror. It's like we're twins," de Blasio says, hamming it up.
The mayor then quizzes the impersonator on how he would respond to quips from the City Hall press corps about his response to the "fake blizzard."
"I gave everybody a snow day. Who doesn't like a day off," says the impersonator.
"What about the whole marijuana thing," de Blasio later asks referencing questions about whether he smoked the drug. (The mayor says he hasn't smoked marijuana since college.)
"I got 25 grams in my bag outside if you want to go spark it to the dome," jokes the impersonator.
Twenty-five grams is the amount of marijuana that New Yorkers can be caught with by police and receive just a summonses instead of being arrested under a policy de Blasio implemented.
But de Blasio is so impressed with the impersonator that he jokes: "Book me a ticket to Cuba. I'm going to tell Fidel all about this."
The Inner Circle's 2015 show will be held March 28 at the New York Hilton Hotel. The $100,000 that is expected to be raised will benefit 100 local charities.
