NEW YORK CITY – Welcome spring with a macaron. Or maybe five.
Fifteen bakeries across the city will be giving out one free macaron per customer this Friday as part of the 6th Annual Macaron Day NYC — with flavors ranging from violet to Thai iced tea to Remy Martin Cognac.
Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., tell the participating bakeries that you are there for Macaron Day, and you can taste the Parisian cookie for free.
Started by chef François Payard in 2010, NYC Macaron Day draws its inspiration from Jour du Macaron in Paris, an event that too promotes the delicious French pastry.
However, if one macaron is not enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, feel free to indulge in more — in addition to celebrating macarons, NYC Macaron Day aims to raise money for City Harvest, an organization that fights hunger. A portion of proceeds from additional macarons that customers buy will be used to rescue 1.4 million New Yorkers facing hunger.
