GREENWICH VILLAGE — A tiny new coffee shop on University Place is bringing Greenwich Village residents pastries from Brooklyn and unique coffee concoctions.

Madman Espresso at 54 University Pl. offers an array of drinks, ranging from a $2.50 espresso to a $4.95 "Dirty Chai" spiked with an espresso shot, as well as baked goods from New York institutions, including hibiscus-frosted doughnuts from Bed-Stuy bakery Dough.

Business was steady around midday Monday, with curious neighbors inquiring about the establishment's hours and checking out the unique drink offerings — the Sarahbella, a latte with honey and cinnamon, and the Madmancino, a chocolate-chai-cinnamon cappucino.

Madman has three other locations, in Hell's Kitchen on 37th Street between 8th and 9th avenues, in the East Village on 14th Street between First and Second avenues, and in the Garment District on 35th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. The East Village location is one of Saturday Night Live veteran Rachel Dratch's favorite neighborhood spots.

The cafe offers free wi-fi punch cards that earn frequent buyers a free beverage after they purchase 10, but no restroom for customers. Local students get a 10 percent discount on all purchases.

Madman Espresso, 54 University Place. Open 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
