QUEENS — An attacker slashed a Ridgewood man's throat Thursday while yelling, "I'm going to kill you white boy” in what police are investigating as a hate crime.
The brutal assault took place at 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Gates and Seneca avenues in Ridgewood, where the victim, who is white, was walking his girlfriend home, police said.
The suspect, who was accompanied by a woman, ran up to the victim and yelled in Spanish: “I’m going to kill you white boy,” and then slashed his throat with a sharp object, officials said.
The attack, police said, was unprovoked and the two men didn’t know each other prior to the attack.
The suspect fled with the woman, who police said acted as a lookout.
The victim, who understands some Spanish, was taken to Wyckoff and later Kings County hospitals where he received multiple stitches, police said. He was later released.
Police described both suspects as being 25 to 30 years old. The man is approximately 5-foot-8 with a medium build, and the woman was about 5-foot-4, authorities said.
