Police Seek Teen Suspects in Subway Cell Phone Snatching Spree

GREENWICH VILLAGE — The NYPD is looking for a group of teens suspected in a rash of smartphone muggings in a 14th Street subway station.

The four teens, caught on surveillance footage at the 14th Street and Sixth Avenue station, and believed to be between the ages of 16 and 21 years old, are suspected of snatching phones from the hands of straphangers on at least four occasions, police said.

The incidents have all occurred in the evening on weekdays, police said.

The teens stole a Samsung Galaxy phone from a 48-year-old man about 8 p.m. on Feb. 10, and an iPhone 6 from a 40-year-old woman just minutes later, police said.

Two more Samsung Galaxys were stolen on March 2 about 10:15 p.m. and March 3 about 5:20 p.m., police said, from a 38-year-old woman and a 33-year-old woman respectively.
