BATTERY PARK CITY — Massive swaths of fabric, whirling to the sounds of people singing show tunes in the shower, will soon float Downtown.

Artist Heather Nicol's whimsical “Soft Spin” exhibition, an installation of colorful sculptures that look like huge twirling skirts, will hover inside Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden atrium starting March 26.

Six, 94-foot-long “soft sculptures” will be suspended from the ceiling, and recorded sounds of people singing Broadway songs in the shower will play as the material swirls.

The quirky exhibit is about playing with "notions of being in the spotlight," Brookfield said in a statement.

“The audio score fluctuates between individual and group voices singing show tunes in the shower, mirroring theatrical or operatic traditions of chorus and response in a polis — a public place — or the taking of turns in a children’s game," Brookfield said in a statement. "Playful tunes, curvaceous hemlines and sun-drenched bursts of bright color invite viewers to look up and embrace the unexpected."

“Soft Spin” will be on display at Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden atrium from March 26 through April 24, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
