HELL’S KITCHEN —Music-loving parents and students at P.S. 51 on West 44th Street are ready to rock out with the neighborhood.

The school, located at 525 W. 44 St., will host an open neighborhood jam session to raise money for its music and arts programs on March 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.

“Let’s say it’s an organized jam,” said Lorena Camacho, a parent at the school. “Which means we have a rhythm section and the students doing an specific program, but if anyone wants to bring their instrument and play, they can join the group.”

Camacho’s husband Diego Urcola, a jazz musician, will play, along with musician-parent Atsushi Toya. Toya wrote a piece for the event, which the parents and students will perform.

Music teacher Katie Traxler will lead the P.S. 51 guitar ensemble, joined by her husband, a percussionist.

Organizers hope to raise at least $1,200, which will go to cover materials and instruments for the event. The school’s music and art departments have an annual budget that is covered by PTA fundraising, Camacho said.

“The idea is not only to raise funds for our music and art programs but to open the door to the neighborhood, especially families,” she added.
