QUEENS — New York City's murder-free streak, which lasted 12 days, ended Saturday, after a man shot on Friday in Queens succumbed to his injuries, police said.

It was the longest period without a murder in the city since the early ’90s, authorities said.

Police said that Eric Roman, 28, was shot four times Friday, including twice in the head, just before noon in front of his home on 89th Street, between Atlantic and 91st aves, in Woodhaven.

Roman, who was also shot in the hand and in the thigh, was with his friend, when they were approached by two men, police said. The friend was pistol-whipped, but managed to run away, officials said.

Roman was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition but died from his injuries the next day, police said.

Two suspects fled in a dark-colored Mercedes-Benz, sources said. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning, but sources said the shooting appears to be drug-related.

Police are also investigating the death of another man, who was found dead on Saturday morning in Queens.

The 56-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was found in the basement of his home on 77th Avenue, near Vleight Place, in Kew Gardens Hills with head trauma, including bruises to the right side of the head, police said.

Police said that as of Monday morning his death had not been ruled a homicide and that the city's medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death.

Officials also said Monday that investigators were questioning a man who admitted that he knew the man and had several items that belonged to him, police said.
