WEST BRIGHTON — A teenager who had been shot several times in the chest was found dead inside a West Brighton apartment building early Monday morning, police said.

Barry Lovelace, 17, was discovered at about 1:45 a.m. inside an apartment at 806 Henderson Ave., police said.

Lovelace, a Staten Island resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victim had several previous run-ins with the law. In September, Lovelace was arrested after he allegedly shot a bullet through an apartment door and wounded a 44-year-old woman, the Staten Island Advance reported.

He was also arrested in November for stealing a teen's cellphone after threatening to shoot up the victim's home, the Advance reported.

No arrests had been made as of later Monday morning, and police said an investigation into Lovelace's death was ongoing.
