MORRISANIA — A man climbed through a hole in the roof of a chicken slaughterhouse last week to steal thousands of dollars and a laptop, police said.

The suspect entered Webster Live Chicken, located at 1167 Webster Ave. in the 44th Precinct, at about 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 9 and nabbed about $4,000 in cash and a Toshiba laptop before fleeing on foot, police said.

Video shows the suspect combing through a cash register in the slaughterhouse's office and using a flashlight to search through several other areas of the same room. He appears to attempt to pry open a safe under the office desk.

Officers described the suspect as a man wearing a black sweat suit, sneakers, a skullcap, a multicolored hooded ski jacket and a dark colored mask and gloves.

Andy Saroop, an employee at Webster Live Chicken, said he believed that the hole already existed in the slaughterhouse and was normally covered up by a fan, but the burglar was able to break in by yanking out the fan.

Saroop added that he believed the slaughterhouse had fixed the hole.

Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
