GREENWICH VILLAGE — A man asked a fellow straphanger "What are you looking at?" before punching him in the face on the E train, police said.

Dwayne Lawson, 40, confronted the 30-year-old man on the northbound train about 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 6, police said.

The victim replied that he wasn’t looking at anything, but Lawson attacked him, punching him several times and leaving him with a bloody nose and bruised face, police said.

During the attack, 39-year-old Shawana Haidara, who told police she was Lawson's wife, elbowed the victim in the head, police said.

Haidara was arrested in the West Fourth Street subway station after trying to run away.

She told police she wasn't involved in the fight and that she didn't know where Lawson had gone.

Lawson was caught the next day after he called 911 and reported that he had been the victim in a fight the day before. Officers who investigated the call discovered the open complaint from the previous day and arrested Lawson.

He was charged with assault, attempted assault and harassment. He was being held on $2,500 bail as of Wednesday.

Haidara was charged with assault and harassment. She was being held on $2,500 bond or $1,500 cash bail as of Wednesday.

Lawson's attorney declined to comment and Haidara's did not immediately respond to a message left for comment.
