BUSHWICK — Four men dressed as construction workers conned their way into a Bushwick building and then stole more than $25,000 worth of equipment from the roof, police said.

The suspects, who were wearing white hard hats, told security workers at 1149 Putnam Ave., near Bushwick Avenue, that they needed to do utility work on the building's roof at about 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 13, police said.

Once on the roof, they grabbed eight batteries, worth $3,200 apiece, and 40 feet of copper wire, police said. They then went back downstairs and fled, police said.

Police released surveillance images from the building's elevator, showing the men in sweatshirts or jackets and hard hats.
