NEW YORK CITY — A number of New York City politicians have traded pinstripes for prison stripes.
Former State Sen. Malcolm Smith's conviction Thursday and Assemblyman Sheldon Silver's late-January arrest continues a troubling trend for Empire State elected officials. Since 2010, more than a dozen politicians have been arrested, convicted or pleaded guilty to crimes.
The list includes City Council members, state senators, Assembly members and a comptroller. The timeline below shows the dishonor roll.
