INWOOD — A masked, gun-wielding robber tied up an Inwood woman in her apartment before stealing her electronics and keys last week — and police are eyeing him for an attempted break-in in the same building hours later, police said.

The thief entered the first apartment on West 213th Street near Broadway about 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, by pushing in an air-conditioning unit placed in a fire escape window, police said.

The suspect then tied up the 47-year-old woman inside and stole two iPhones and a tablet computer, as well as the keys to her apartment and car, police said. It was unclear if she was injured in the robbery.

About two hours later, a 34-year-old man living in a different apartment in the building woke up when he heard a strange noise on his fire escape, police said. The man saw a person in a black mask trying to force open the window of the apartment’s fire escape, police said. The man fled when he saw the tenant inside the apartment, police added.

The suspect was dressed in a black jacket and mask, and was carrying a silver handgun, police said.

No further details were available about the suspect.
