FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Ice falling from 4 World Trade Center shut down nearby sidewalks for several hours on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Police halted pedestrian traffic from Dey Street to Thames Street along Trinity Place because of the falling ice, police said.

A police spokeswoman said the sidewalks were closed after reports of ice falling near Liberty Street and Trinity Place, a little after 1 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Erica Duma, a spokeswoman from the Port Authority, confirmed that ice had fallen but directed additional questions to Silverstein Properties, the building's developer. Silverstein did not immediately return a request for comment.

The sidewalks reopened just before 4 p.m.
