NEW YORK CITY — Light snow is expected to fall on the city Thursday night — but don't bank on another snow day.

About an inch or two is in the forecast, possibly starting around 9 or 10 p.m. but most likely after midnight and lasting through mid-morning Friday, according to David Stark, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

"We're not looking at significant snowfall," he said, though the flakes could potentially cause minor issues with Friday morning's commute.

The Department of Sanitation issued a "snow alert" for 7 p.m. Thursday in order to start preparing salt spreaders and plows if needed, the agency said.

The snowfall will be followed by windy weather Friday afternoon, with gusts as high as 30 to 35 miles per hour, according to Stark. Cold temperatures are expected Friday night, when the wind chill will bring the feeling of single-digit temperatures.

Temperatures are forecasted to be in the low teens Saturday morning, with a wind chill as low as minus 5 degrees, Stark said. Sunday night could bring more snow, according to the National Weather Service.

"Saturday will be sunny, just very cold," he said.
