CARROLL GARDENS — Maybelle's Cafe in Carroll Gardens will close this weekend after just four years on Henry Street.

"It's true... Maybelle's will be closing her doors. Saturday will be the last day. Thank you for your patronage," said a chalk-written note on a sidewalk sandwich board outside the restaurant.

It was not immediately clear why Maybelle's, located at 502 Henry St., was closing. A person who answered the phone Thursday said it would close "Saturday for good" and only added that the closure was the owner's decision, first reported by Pardon Me For Asking

Maybelle's replaced another local coffee shop Naidre's in 2011, according to reports, and was a well-known neighborhood spot for locals and laptop users.

While Maybelle's opened relatively recently in the neighborhood, the 502 Henry St. address has hosted either a cafe or bakery for decades.

That includes Cammareri Brothers Bakery, made famous in the 1987 movie "Moonstruck," which starred Cher and Nicolas Cage. The bakery had been around for nearly 80 years before closing in 1998.
