Box Cutter-Wielding Thief Swipes $60 Pants From Urban Outfitters, NYPD Says

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A thief threatened to cut workers at a Financial District Urban Outfitters after swiping a $60 pair of pants last weekend, police said.

The shoplifter, wielding a box cutter, shouted “You better move before I cut you,” while trying to flee the 182 Broadway store on Jan. 24 with a pair of men's pants he'd stolen from the shop, police said.

The thief ran out of the chain clothing store at about 11:30 a.m., without injuring anyone.

Police were still investigating the incident as of Tuesday.

A manager at the store declined to comment.

Other notable incidents in this week's 1st Precinct crime blotter:

► A 29-year-old man had $1,800 in cash stolen when his bag was swiped from a Starbucks at 195 Broadway at about 6 p.m. on Jan. 19, police said. The man told police he left his his $40 Calvin Klein bag on a table, then later realized it was missing. Starbucks did not immediately return a request for comment.

► A gray-haired man swiped a $6,200 handbag from SoHo boutique Celine on Jan. 20 at about 2 p.m., police said. The man placed the Celine Python bag behind the cushions of a store couch, then eventually grabbed it and fled the 67 Wooster St. shop. The store did not immediately return a request for comment.

► Two men and a woman swiped a $1,500 leather men's coat from boutique Mackage at 123 Mercer St. on Jan. 25 at about 5:30 p.m., police said. The trio placed the coat in a shopping bag then ran out of the shop, police said.
