STATEN ISLAND — Icy road conditions caused a 15 car pile-up an a bus crash that left nearly 20 people hurt Sunday, officials said.

The car crash on Clove and Richmond roads left 12 people hurt around 7:18 a.m., fire officials said. Officials on the scene blamed the 15-car crash on icy road conditions, the Staten Island Advance reported.

"This all should have already been salted throughout the borough," an FDNY lieutenant told the Advance.

"Cars are slipping and sliding all over the place — it's a mess."

Fire officials could not confirm the size of the crash or the cause on Monday, but said the injured were transported to Staten Island University Hospital North.

Three had serious but non-life threatening injuries, eight had minor injuries and two refused medical attention, the FDNY said.

Around the borough, three different MTA buses crashed Sunday morning, a spokeswoman for the MTA said.

At Forest and Randall avenues, an S48 bus skidded on the ice and crashed into two parked cars around 7:19 a.m., the MTA said. Seven passengers received non-life threatening injuries in the crash, the MTA said.

Also on Sunday morning, an S46 bus crashed at Castleton Avenue and Caroline Street, then an S59 crashed at Richmond Avenue and King Street, the MTA said. No injuries were reported in those crashes.

There were no accidents on Monday morning, but Staten Island buses were running with delays because of icy conditions on the roads, according to the MTA.

The conditions also caused the Port Authority to close three bridges into New Jersey — the Bayonne, Goethals and Outerbridge — for around three hours on Sunday.
