BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A Bed-Stuy deli is back in business this week after a garbage truck crashed into its storefront last June.

Following a six-month closure, Jabran Gourmet Deli at 994 Bedford Ave. reopened with a new look Wednesday.

“It’s good to be back in business and I’m happy to see my customers again,” said owner Abdul Ali.

Customers peered into the deli’s glass door on Thursday to see brand-new appliances, moldings and a chandelier hanging from store’s center.

Seven people were injured in the early morning hours of June 20 when a truck collided with a Volkswagen sedan, forcing the sanitation vehicle to veer into the store’s brick façade.

Reconstruction began two days after the accident, Ali said.

In addition to closing the deli, which has been in the neighborhood for nearly 30 years, the incident forced Ali and his family out of their home.

The city vacated the family from the apartment above the business due to fears of structural instability.

“We were away for almost four months, it was very hard,” Ali said. “But thank God we are back in the building."
