STATEN ISLAND — A 9-year-old Staten Island boy was stabbed multiple times in broad daylight on his way to school Friday morning, according to police.
The boy was walking near Union and Leyden avenues when another person appeared to suddenly attack him, stabbing the boy in his neck, arm and back of head at about 8:14 a.m., according to police and surveillance video.
The boy then walked back home, where a 911 call was made, an NYPD spokesman said.
He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition.
Investigators have not been able to interview the boy, the spokesman added.
It was not immediately clear what school the boy was walking to.
"It makes me wish I was there," said resident Luis Padilla, who is a martial arts instructor and lives near where the attack occurred. "I could've done something."
