UPPER EAST SIDE — A city sanitation truck crashed into a cab belonging to the Carmel Car & Limousine Service on Thursday morning, witnesses said.

The vehicles collided as they both tried to turn south onto York Avenue from East 70th Street just after 9 a.m., witnesses said.

“I was on the inside. I tried to turn to the right, but it was very busy,” Carmel driver Peter Ping, 58, said. “People were crossing the street, so I was waiting. But the garbage truck was moving and he hit me. He tried to rush the turn, but he cut it too close.”

Nobody was injured in the accident, police said. The cab sustained damage to its front end.

"The sanitation truck clipped him, but it wasn't his fault," said Jennie Fotoulos, 39, a nearby food cart vendor. "The taxi was on the inside, but the sanitation truck was in front."

The Department of Sanitation declined to comment.
