THROGS NECK — A heavily tattooed man beat his 87-year-old grandmother to death in the Throgs Neck apartment Thursday morning and then went on a rampage when police arrived, police said.

Officials responded to a 911 call at 633 Hollywood Ave., near Randall Avenue, at 7:23 a.m., where they found the man, who has a skull tattoo on his chest, wearing only his boxers on the balcony of the house.

The man began throwing chairs and other household items off the balcony as police approached, they said.

The man, 48, then barricaded himself in the house, prompting officials to call in the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit, who entered the building and took the man into custody.

When they searched the house, they found the man's 87-year-old grandmother, Alice Durso, unconscious with trauma to her head. Durso was pronounced dead on the scene.

Three other people were found in the house, a 55-year-old man with head trauma, a 67-year-old woman with an arm injury and a 56-year-old woman with a face laceration.

It was not clear how they were injured.

They were taken to Jacobi Hospital.

The man was also taken to Jacobi for psychiatric evaluation. He remains in police custody but has not been charged yet. His name has not been released.
