QUEENS — As the weather outside gets frightful, a new bar slated to open in Forest Hills this Friday will try to give its patrons the taste of the tropics with an array of tiki drinks.

End of the Century Bar, at 104-08 Metropolitan Ave., near 72nd Ave, where St. James bar once was, will also offer a variety of classic cocktails, the owners said.

The bar, named after the 1980 Ramones album, will serve the "Dr. Funk," a dark rum drink, and "Mai Tai," among its tiki drinks, said Valentin Gonzalez, one of the owners, who has worked as a bartender at Dutch Kills Bar in Long Island City. Gonzalez also partnered with Ian Present, one of Dutch Kills Bar's owners, on the Forest Hills project.

The owners said they want the bar to become a "neighborhood place."

They decorated the walls with vintage cameras, old masks and posters from various countries around the world, from Russia to Japan, hoping to make the bar's patrons, coming from ethnically diverse backgrounds, feel that "they are sitting in their living room," Gonzalez said.

“Forest Hills is very friendly, it’s a real community," he said. "And it has a lot of potential."

The bar will also serve a variety of classic cocktails, Gonzalez said, including the gimlet, Moscow Mule and old fashioned.

Soon, he said, End of the Century will also introduce beer cocktails as well as scorpion bowls and punch served in bowls large enough for several people.

Gonzalez, who also worked at PKNY, a tiki bar on the Lower East Side that closed last year, said that to make his cocktails he uses only fresh juices and block ice, which lasts longer than ice cubes.

Drinks, which will cost about $10 ($8 during happy hour), will be served with metal straws, he said.

The bar features a patio that should open sometime in the spring, Gonzalez said. The venue has a kitchen, but for now will only serve appetizers, the owners said.

End of the Century Bar is located at 104-08 Metropolitan Ave., near 72nd Ave. in Forest Hills (718-544-1624).
