QUEENS — A malfunctioning train at Grand Central Terminal forced the MTA to suspend 7 trains between Manhattan and Queensboro Plaza for several hours during Wednesday morning's rush-hour commute, officials said.
The train had just left Grand Central when it malfunctioned about 6:50 a.m., according to an MTA spokesman.
About 300 people were evacuated to a rescue train, an MTA spokesman said. The last of the commuters made it back to the transit hub about 85 minutes later at 8:15 a.m., the MTA said.
The 7 train was suspended between Queensboro Plaza and 42nd Street throughout many New Yorker's morning commute, officials said.
"happy thanksgiving #7train I'm thankful for all of the massive fail you've brought me today #mtafail #7trainfail," @bastardworks tweeted about 9:15 a.m.
Riders opted to take alternate trains, but clogged up subway platforms.

Regular service resumed about 10 a.m., but the MTA was still trying to figure out what exactly malfunctioned, a spokesman said.
