WILLIAMSBURG — A trio of suspects attacked an Hasidic Jewish man Monday with an umbrella while hurling anti-Semitic comments in an incident that's being investigated as a hate crime, police said.

The 53-year-old victim was standing on the Manhattan-bound platform at the Marcy Avenue J train station just before 4 p.m. when he was approached by a man from behind, according to the NYPD.

The victim, who police said was Hasidic, felt the man try to take something from his pocket, according to the NYPD.

The suspect then spit in the man's face and then hit him with an umbrella in the face and head while making anti-Semitic remarks, police said.

Another man then approached the victim from behind and kicked him in the lower back several times while making anti-Jewish comments, the NYPD said. A third man also joined in on the anti-Semitic statements but did not physically attack the victim, police addd.

The victim complained of back and head pain but did not go to the hospital, police added.

The incident was first reported by JPUpdates.com.

The suspects fled by taking an M train headed to Manhattan without taking anything from the victim, according to police. Two of the suspects were described by police as about 17 or 18 years old, the NYPD said. The man wielding the umbrella was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt at the time, police added.

No arrests have been made, according to police. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident.
