QUEENS — A driver plowed his car through a crowd on a Laurelton sidewalk Saturday night, killing one man, after a fight at a nearby banquet hall, police said.

Kevin Lewis, 20, was standing with two women near the intersection of 225th Street and Merrick Boulevard at about 8:30 p.m. when Kevin Weekes exited the event space, got into his Nissan Altima and drove into them, an NYPD spokesman said.  Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene and the women, ages 19 and 21, were taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, officials said.

Weekes, also 20, took off on foot and was arrested later that night at the home of the car's registered owner, the spokesman said. Weekes' relationship to the vehicle's owner was unclear, the spokesman said.

He was awaiting arraignment Monday morning on charges of murder, assault and reckless endangerment, officials said.

Lewis, of Laurelton, suffered fatal head and torso injuries, according to the NYPD.

The 19-year-old woman suffered back and neck injuries and the 21-year-old woman suffered head and leg injuries, police said.

Weekes, of St. Albans, was also stabbed in the abdomen at some point during the incident and was being treated at the hospital, police said.
