PARK SLOPE — A Garfield Place synagogue's activities building was temporarily closed after a small electrical fire broke out in a boiler room there Wednesday morning, FDNY and synagogue officials said.

The blaze started inside the Temple House of Congregation Beth Elohim, at 274 Garfield Place near Eighth Avenue, about 5 a.m., an FDNY spokeswoman said.

About 60 firefighters helped bring the fire under control about 43 minutes later, the spokeswoman said.

"Although the fire was small and contained and no one was hurt, the Fire Marshall has closed the building for today. We are so sorry for the inconvenience this causes to our community," Beth Elohim staff said in a Facebook statement.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Temple House was built in 1929 and is still used for many of the congregation's "educational programs, religious activities and services, life-cycle events, adult and Jewish learning, community groups and administrative offices," according to their website.
