PARK SLOPE — Foodies can use their appetites for good at the Park Slope Civic Council's Food for Thought fundraiser Wednesday night.

A $75 ticket buys an evening filled with food from 15 restaurants as well as wine and spirits from eight booze vendors. The proceeds will fund scholarships for four high school seniors at the John Jay Educational Campus on Seventh Avenue and Fourth Street.

Included on this year's expanded roster of restaurants are eateries from Windsor Terrace, Gowanus and Prospect Heights. Krupa Grocery, Buttermilk Bakeshop, Pickle Shack and Brooklyn Brine are participating for the first time this year. Freddy's Bar, Branded Saloon, Shawn Fine Wine & Spirits and Red White & Bubbly are among the vendors providing alcohol.

"It's a really great cause — the more money we raise, the more money we can give to scholarships,” said Park Slope Civic Council trustee Sarah Gersowitz. "It's really about being able to give back to the community."

The success of Food for Thought, now in its third year, has allowed the Civic Council to increase the scholarship amount to $1,500 from $1,000, Gersowitz said.

This year the scholarships will go to seniors from all four high schools in the John Jay building — Millennium Brooklyn High School was added to the list for the first time, along with seniors from Park Slope Collegiate, and the Secondary Schools for Law and Journalism.

This year attendees who pay for $125 "platinum level" tickets get a tote bag filled with donated items from local businesses. Three of the bags will contain gift certificates to neighborhood restaurants.

Another new feature is the addition of a three-piece band and a singer, so guests can dance. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Food for Thought starts at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Prospect Park Picnic House.

“It’s a great event at a really fabulous venue in the middle of Prospect Park,” Gersowitz said. “It’s an intimate event where you get to meet your neighbors and taste fabulous food.”
