WOODSIDE — Community leaders are pushing to find a driver who fled a hit-and-run crash on Queens Boulevard last week that left a man fighting for his life.

Officials and residents rallied Friday at the scene of the crash on Queens Boulevard and 60th Street, where a still-unidentified man was struck early Thursday morning by a westbound SUV which police say  kept moving toward the Queensboro Bridge.

"What this person did is leave a young man to die," City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer said at the press conference.

He was joined by Capt. Brian Hennessy of the 108th Precinct, transportation advocates, residents and local schoolchildren who held signs that read "Turn yourself in" and "Please slow down."

"Somewhere out there is a person who should have a very guilty conscience," Van Bramer said.

The councilman added that the victim of the hit-and-run is believed to be in his 20s or 30s and is at Elmhurst Hospital with critical injuries.

"This person is in the hospital clinging to life with literally no one knowing his name," Van Bramer said.

"So we need the person or the people who have any knowledge about what happened two nights ago to come forward."

A police sign was set up near the intersection where the crash took place with information flashing about the hit-and-run and a phone number the public could use to call in tips.

It's unclear if speed was a factor in the crash, Van Bramer said.

Van Bramer authored a bill, passed recently by the City Council and set to take effect at the end of December, which will make drivers who leave the scene of a crash liable for up to $10,000 in civil fines.

Anyone with information in regards about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
