ST. GEORGE — The annual Staten Island Half marathon will close several streets and impact public transportation, on Sunday.

From 8 a.m. until the 13.1 mile race ends at 12:30 p.m., Richmond Terrace, Bay Street and the entire course will be closed to traffic, according to organizers the New York Road Runners.

Streets closed on the course include Bank Street, School Road, Lily Pond Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard from Sand Lane to Graham Boulevard.

Additionally, the westbound exit ramps of the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge at Bay Street and Father Capodanoo/Lily Pond Avenue will be closed to cars until 11:30 a.m., the MTA said.

For those using public transportation to get around, the MTA warns to expect delays on the S40, S44, S46, S48, S51, S52, S53, S57, S59, S61, S62, S74, S76, S78, X1, and X10 buses because they'll be re-routed during the race.

The Staten Island Railway stations at St. George, Tompkinsville, Stapleton and Clifton might have higher ridership than usual because of the race and some stairways might be "entrance or exit only" to prevent overcrowding, the MTA said.

The 1 train at South Ferry and the R train at Whitehall Street may also be affected by the race, the MTA said.

The annual Staten Island Half brings 10,000 runners to the borough and is the last in the NYRR's Five Borough Race Series before the New York City Marathon.

For the first time this year, the race will culminate in the Richmond County Bank Ballpark with runners crossing home plate to finish. The event will also include a new race for kids aged 10 to 14 at Clove Lakes Park at 12:30 p.m., the NYRR said.
