MIDTOWN SOUTH — A pedestrian suffered severe head injuries after being struck by a motorcylist at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The pedestrian, in his twenties, was crossing the block when the motorcycle struck him, the NYPD said. The incident took place about 4:30 p.m., according to police and fire officials.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital with severe head trauma, the police said.

A crossing guard said he was across the street and able to hear the incident when it happened. He said he saw the pedestrian bleeding from his head and legs.

The crossing guard added that the motorcyclist was also taken away in an ambulance and did not appear to be as seriously injured.

The red, white and blue Ducati motorcycle at the scene was smashed in on its front end.

Police and fire officials did not provide further information on the motorcyclist or his condition.
