NEW YORK CITY — A three-vehicle crash in the Lincoln Tunnel Tuesday morning left seven people hurt and shut down one of the tunnel's Manhattan-bound tubes, snarling rush hour traffic, officials said.

A BMW sped into the tunnel at about 8:30 a.m. and slammed into a Mercedes, which then hit a Jitney bus that was in front of it, according to Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The crash left one person in critical condition, two others with serious but not life-threatening injuries, and one with minor injuries. All four were taken Roosevelt Hospital, according to FDNY. Three other people were hurt but refused medical attention.

The crash caused traffic delays of more than an hour, as cars were rerouted, Pentangelo said.

Commuters vented their frustration on Twitter as they waited in traffic jams.

"Lincoln Tunnel [exclusive bus lane] at a dead stop for over 10 minutes now," tweeted @SCJosen. "Summer's over. Return to hell."

The center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel , where the trash occurred, was reopened at 12:15 p.m., Pentangelo
