QUEENS — It's hard to find time to exercise when you just had a baby, but this class is raising the bar.
During the class, called “Barre Fitness with Baby,” parents will be using the stroller as a barre, to "get a full workout while keeping their babies close,” the center said in an email.
The routine is “based on the popular barre classes” and will include a number of exercises, from leg lifts to squats, aiming to strengthen legs, arms and the core, a representative for the center said Friday. The class will also include sculpting and toning elements, as well as cardio intervals.
The representative said the center is trying to accomodate a growing number of young families with children in the neighborhood.
“We are trying to incorporate more programming for moms that don’t have a babysitter for their child so that they can still get some fitness in,” the representaive said.
She added that the class allows moms and dads to bond with their kids and other parents.
The center also offers a variety of other classes for parents and children, including "Tiny Tumblers" (ages 7-13 months), "Gym Explorers" (ages 12-24 months), during which children play on slides and bridges, "Gym Adventurers" (ages 2-3 years), which combines sport activities with tumbling, and "Kiddie Sports" (ages 2.5-4 years), during which toddlers learn basic skills in soccer, baseball and basketball.
A free demonstration of "Barre Fitness with Baby" class is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. The six-week session begins either on Wed., Oct. 1, (12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.) or Fri., Oct. 24, (1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. ). Cost: $72 for members and $90 for non-members.
