GREENPOINT — A man smashed three car windows in Greenpoint and stole what was inside of each, including a Fender guitar, an iPod and sunglasses, police said.

James Tortora, 26, allegedly smashed the windows of a 2001 BMW, a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser and a 2008 Volkswagen on Saturday, Aug. 23, between 7:50 a.m. and 8:35 a.m., according to police and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

A man, 46, who owned the BMW had parked on the 100 block of Monitor Street Saturday around 7:30 a.m., police said, leaving sunglasses, a tool knife, a Bluetooth headset, an iPhone, diving glasses, a screwdriver and headphones in the car.

When he returned around 7:50 a.m., the driver's side window, worth about $115, was broken.

The Toyota was parked on Newell Street near Meserole Avenue when a neighbor heard "a shattering sound" around 8:15 a.m. and told police that he saw Tortora taking a bag from the car, according to a criminal complaint.

The 25-year-old man who owned the Volkswagen had also parked on Newell Street near Meserole Avenue. He left the car on the street on Friday night around 11 p.m. and returned around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday to find his driver's side window, worth $100, damaged.

A Fender guitar, an iPod, a Tumi bag and a backpack filled with clothes were gone, police said. Police did not have the value of the stolen items.

An officer from the 94th Precinct later found Tortora nearby, around 138 Newell St., where he had both the iPod and the iPhone in his left pocket.

He was charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to the criminal complaint.

Tortora's attorney could not be reached. His bail is set at $5,000, and his next court date is on Aug. 29.

Other notable crimes that occurred recently in the 94th Precinct include:

► A woman riding the L train had her phone snatched just as the doors closed at the Graham Avenue stop, police said.

The woman, 32, boarded the L at Union Square on Tues. Aug. 20 around 12:10 p.m., police said. Just as train doors were about to close at the Graham Avenue stop, someone grabbed her Samsung Note phone.

The woman got off at the Grand Avenue stop and immediately went to the precinct station house to file a report, police said.

► A man punched a cabdriver after trying to swipe the cabbie's phone and cash at Franklin Street and Greenpoint Avenue, police and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said.

Ozean Douglas, 33, allegedly reached through the taxi partition on Tues. Aug. 20 around 7:45 p.m. and grabbed the driver's cell phone and cash, police said.

The driver, 40, took the property back, and then Douglas allegedly began to punch the man in the face and head, causing bruising and swelling, police said.

Douglas then left on foot without paying for the fare, police said.

Douglas did not have an attorney listed. He was not yet arraigned on Tuesday evening, pending a psychiatric exam, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office.

Douglas' next court appearance is Sept. 18, according to city records.
