NEW YORK CITY — A 50-year-old woman was struck and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in Mott Haven Monday afternoon, officials said.

The accident unfolded at 1:10 p.m. on Bruckner Boulevard and 138th Street, according to police and fire officials.

The vehicle was making a U-turn and struck a pedestrian, the NYPD said.

A description of the car was not immediately available.

The victim was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.

Emmanuel Kokinos, 55, who works nearby, described the intersection as "very dangerous" and said drivers often ignore red lights.

"The cars, I notice many times they don't want to stop," he said.
