HUNTS POINT — Two livery drivers have been murdered in a week in The Bronx, and the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is now calling for a plan to keep industry worker safe in a meeting with head of the NYPD.

The most recent victim, a 62-year-old man who drove a black Toyota Camry, took a male passenger to Bryant Avenue in Hunts Point around 6 a.m. Tuesday, where he was shot in the back of the head, police said.

At least three other men then approached the car, dragged the victim out and drove the vehicle away, according to the NYPD.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fernando Mateo, founder of the taxi federation, described the victim as a good, hardworking driver with a great sense of humor.

"He was the kind of guy that anyone would want to spend time with," he said.

This murder comes in the wake of the killing of Maodo Kane, 49, another livery driver who was fatally shot in the head on Aug. 5 at 3412 Hunter Ave., near Tillotson Avenue, in Eastchester, police said.

Mateo was set to meet with Police Commissioner Bill Bratton about the incidents Wednesday.
