QUEENS — An unlicensed driver fatally struck a man who was trying to cross the Belt Parkway in Springfield Gardens on Tuesday night and then got hit himself when he got out to see what had happened, police said.

Karlmarx Waite, 44, was driving his 2009 Nissan Maxima east on the Belt Parkway about 11 p.m. when he hit 62-year-old Frank Korowitz near 150th Street, the NYPD said.

Waite got out of the Nissan and then was hit from behind by a gray 2002 Isuzu Rodeo SUV, police said.

Korowitz, of Melrose, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Waite and the Isuzu's driver were both treated for minor injuries, the NYPD said, and Waite was arrested for driving without a license.
