MANHATTAN — A spooked police horse briefly ran free through the streets of Midtown Sunday evening before being corralled, an NYPD spokesman said.
An officer had been riding on Sixth Avenue at West 44th Street about 6 p.m. when his horse was frightened by a garbage truck. The rider was thrown from the horse, police said.
The animal bounded up Sixth Avenue but was quickly recaptured just blocks away, according to the NYPD.
The officer sustained minor injuries and the horse was uninjured, police said.
