EAST VILLAGE — Artists interested in displaying their work in First Park can submit mural proposals this month.

First Street Green, the neighborhood group that turned an empty lot at Houston Street and Second Avenue into an art space and park, is open to ideas including street art, graffiti and representational work.

“We’re very open-minded,” said co-director Ann Shostrom. “We want anybody to apply that has an idea.”

Artists can submit proposals by email through July 31. A jury including the Department of Parks and Recreation, First Street Green and the Centre-Fuge Public Art Project will review the designs, and then six to eight artists will be chosen to create their pieces on 8-foot-high plywood panels in mid-September, Shostrom said.

The murals will be up for at least two to three months.
