MANHATTAN — Police are looking for a woman they say used a fake ID to try to withdraw thousands of dollars from another person's Citibank account.

The woman hit two different Citibanks in SoHo and Hudson Square in May, police said. At both bank branches, she gave a teller an ID with her photo but someone else's home address, and tried to withdraw money from the bank account of the person whose address she was using, police said.

Police said the first attempt at the SoHo Citibank branch at 476 Broadway occurred about 12:30 p.m. on May 5. The woman asked the teller for $2,900 but fled when the teller went to get a supervisor to double-check the ID.

She tried again May 13, when she went to the Citibank at 200 Varick St. about 2:20 p.m. and, using the same fake ID, succeeded in persuading a teller to give her money from the victim's account, police said.

Police did not say how much money she withdrew from the Hudson Square Citibank.
