BROOKLYN — The man who was swept away during a predawn swim off Williamsburg last week, was found in Newtown Creek Monday night, the city Medical Examiner confirmed.

Steven L. Middleton, who had days earlier turned 21, was celebrating a friend's graduation with three others when he swam into the East River near Kent Avenue and North 1st Street about 5:50 a.m. Witnesses and police said he was overcome by the strong current.

The NYPD dispatched divers, search boats and helicopters to search the waters but couldn't locate him.

A passerby spotted a body floating in Newtown Creek, near Ash Street and Manhattan Avenue, on Monday night, sources said.

The autopsy has not been completed, the ME said.

The swimming accident came days after two 13-year-old cousins drowned while swimming in the Bronx River.

Their bodies were flown to the Dominican Republic on Tuesday for burial.
